Arabinogalactan, a highly purified polysaccharides from the constituents of Echinacea is effective in activating macrophage cytotoxic actions against micro-organisms. In addition, the polysaccharides have an anti-hyaluronidase action thus may be lessened the spread of infectious agent in the body.

2. Antiviral effect
Echinacea has some short term viral resistance against influenza, herpes, vesicular stomatitis virus and others. It inhibits the induction of multiple proinflammatory cytokines by respiratory viruses.
