Hypertension is a world-wide problem affecting millions of people. In Myanmar, hypertension is also affecting about 23% of population with the age of 20 years and over. Newly occuring hypertensive cases are increasing year by year because of changing life style.
If hypertension is not treated properly and effectively, complications and sequelae of hypertension will occur. Hypertension will accelerate the atherosclerotic process in the blood vessels of all organs of the body especially brain, heart and kidneys which will result in insufficient blood flow to these organs. Finally, it will cause stroke, heart attack, heart and kidney failure, and death. Therefore, hypertension could be regarded a “silent killer”.
Although, hypertension has been conventionally treated with Western antihypertensives, patients fail to comply with them because of their considerable side-effects in the long-run. Composition

Each tablet contains:
Plantago major extract ................................ 60 mg
Moringa oleifera extract .............................. 60 mg
Arundo donax extract ................................... 40 mg
Terminalia arjuna extract ............................. 20 mg
Allium sativum extract ................................. 20 mg

Pharmacological actions

Plantago major : Grows wild in Shan and Kachin States, Myanmar. Leaves contain glucosides, saponins and bitter compounds. Seeds contain 0.183% holoside planteose. Plant contains glucoside aucubin. Ursolic acid, N-hentriacontane, steryl ester and b-sitosterol were isolated from the whole plant. Homoplantaginin, a new flavonoid glycoside is also present in the leaves.

Moringa oleifera : It is cultivated in gardens for its edible fruits throughout Myanmar. Alkaloid and gum present in the plant. Alkaloid moringine and moringinine is isolated from the root bark of the plant. Pterygospermin present in the roots is an oily substance with a reddish brown colour and highly piercing smell. Flowers contain amorphous base.

Arundo donax : Root of Arundo donax is composed in many herbal diuretics so that decreases the blood pressure. Especially, it is used for urolithiasis, cystitis, dysuria and other urinary disorders.

Terminalia arjuna : Arjuna is beneficial for angina and poor coronary circulation. It is alos beneficial if the heart’s rate and rhythum are abnormal. By lowering blood cholesterol levels, reducing blood pressure, and supporting normal heart function. Arjuna improves the health of the circulation and reduces the risk of developing a serious heart problem. A traditional Ayruvedic botanical for cardiac failure has recently been shown to be very effective in a controlledd clinical study.

Allium sativum : Clinical trials have confirmed that garlic reduces blood cholestrol level and lowers blood pressure. According to studies, It has been shown to decrease systolic pressure by 20-30 mmHg and diastolic pressure by 10-20 mmHg in people with high blood pressure. If the blood pressure lowering effects of garlic can be maintained, the risk of stroke may be reduced by 30-40% and the risk of heart attack by 20-50%. The ability of this combination is to increase the control rate in hypertension and to prevent the development of complication.
