Motulax®
Composition:

Tamarindus indica extract ..................
700 mg
Cassia alata extract ..........................
200 mg
Pharmacological Actions:
Laxatives include herbs and other substances that stimulate evacuation
of the bowels, as well as promote bowel movements by helping to retain
moisture and lubricating the large intestine. They are mainly indicated
for constipation. Herbalists previously believed that any disease can be
successfully treated if the bowel is empty regularly at least once a
day.Constipation and sluggishness of the bowels cause gradual
accumulation of toxins in the body, which can lead to a myriad of
serious diseases.
However, constipation will usually relieved by eating a high-fibre diet,
by consumption of plenty fluid and by an appropriate exercise, any
sufferers of chronic constipation use laxative instead of availing
themselve of above healthful approaches.
Tamarindus indica ; Tamarind is a
wholesome and cleansing fruit that improves digestion, relieves gas,
soothes sore throats, and acts as a mild laxative. In Ayurvedic
medicine, it is given to improve the appetite and to strengthen the
stomach. It is also used to relieve constipation.
Cassia alata ; Many people who lived
in rural area used Cassia alata as a laxative since long time ago. The
plant has been found to contain anthraquinones which causing laxative
effect. The laxative effect is relaized by inhibition of water &
electrolyte absorption from the large intestine which increase the
volume & pressure of intestinal contents. This will stimulate colon
motility resulting in propulsive contraction.
Motulax® caused softening the faecal bulk, stimulating peristalsis,
restoring normal bowel action. Motulax® does not irritate the gastric
mucosa.
Indication:
Symptomatic treatment of constipation in adults.
Side effects:
The only one is cramp like discomfort in gastrointestinal tract that
requires reduction of drug dosage.
Cautions:
Pregnant women and children under 12 years should be used as directed by
physician.
Contraindications:
Intestinal obstruction, acute intestinal inflammation eg. typhoid,
appendicitis, acute colitis, inflammatory bowel disease such as
ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, abdominal pain of unknown
origin.
Interactions:
In cases of chronic use or abuse, loss of potassium may potentiate the
effect of cardiac glycosides and have an effect on anti-arrhythmic
medications. (Levine et al, 1981)
Motulax® may interfere
with the absorption of other drugs if administered simultaneously.
Generally, Motulax® can be given at least two hours apart from the other
drugs.
Dosage:
One to two tablets at bed time.
Preparation:
30 tablets in one bottle.
