Immunoplex ET

IMMUNOPLEX ET®
Alternative to antiretroviral therapy
Improving access to medicines for people living with HIV/AIDS presents a
challenge for all countries and an even greater challenge for the
developing nations. By the end of 2002, UNAIDS estimated that the total
number of people living with HIV/AIDS stood at 42 million including 5
million new infections. In the same year, an estimated 3.1 million
people died of the disease. Over 95% of the people infected live in
developing countries. The high price of many of the HIV-related
medicines offered by common suppliers especially antiretroviral
medicines is one of the main barriers of their availability in
developing countries. Traditional medicines are being used empirically
in many countries for the treatment of AIDS. Evaluation of these
treatments in persons infected with HIV is a new challenge, especially
since 5-6 million people are estimated to be infected, and all possible
resources must be made available for the benefit of the affected
populations.

Pharmacological Actions:
Allium sativum : Garlic contains allicin,
alliin, S-methyl-L-cystine sulfoxide, protein, trace minerals including
selinium, vitamins, glucosinolates and enzymes. Garlic is a good natural
supplement for immunoenhancement and anti-microbial properties.
Andrographis paniculata : WHO has recently
been reported that 11 of 27 medicinal herbs used in Chinese traditional
medicines showed in vitro inhibitory activity against HIV. Andrographis
paniculata, containing andrographolide is one of the potent plant for
HIV. Andrographolide, an active principle which is a bitter diterpene
lactone, is isolated from leaves of the plant.
Curcuma longa : Tumeric contains
antioxidant properties and it can prevent cell damage in HIV infected
patients. It also enhance the cellular immunity.
Emblica officinale : Amla is the richest
natural source of vitamin C. Amla contains phyllemblin which is good for
enhancing immunity and gut absorption.
Glycine soja : The soybean is packed with
valuable nutrients. It is one of the few plant foods that comes close to
providing all the essential amino acids in the proper amounts. The real
benefits of soy are having many phytonutrients that enhance immune
function.
Glycyrrhiza glabra : Licorice can enhance
mucous secretion from the gastric mucosa by its flavonoids, reduce
inflammation and increase the T-cell production. Licorice contains
glycyrrhizin which can inhibit the growth of HIV-1.
Momordica charantia : It has been recently
reported that bitter gourd contains a & b-momorcharin which inhibit the
growth of HIV-1. Other compound MAP 30 can also inhibit HIV in three
different phases.
Morinda citrifolia : The main active
principle of Noni fruit is proxeronine which converts into xeronine to
influence the biochemical process of the body. Xeronine also acts as
immunoenhancement properties.
Panax ginseng : Ginseng contains saponin glycosides or ginsenosides,
most of them can stimulate the hypothalamus to release corticotrophin,
which in turn acts on the pituitary gland to release ACTH, which acts on
adrenal cortex to release corticosteroids. Some types of ginsenosides
have adaptogenic effects, to maintain the body within physiological
limits. Ginseng is also good for immunomodulation, chronic fatigue
syndrome and promote anabolic effects for HIV/AIDS patients.
Zingiber officinale : The pharmacologically
active compounds of Ginger are Gingerol, Zingeroe and Shogaol which
possess antiemetic action, antispasmodic action and prompt relief of
respiratory tract infection by its antiviral action.
